After winning the Redbird Invitational on Sept. 11, the Bradley women’s golf team competed at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State at the Colbert Hills Golf Club.

The Braves’ overall team score was 927 (+63), which earned them ninth place in the tournament. The team shot a 316 in the first round, following up with a tournament best of 301 in the second round and 310 in the final round.

In the first round, the Braves came out of the gates flat. Fifth-year senior Mara Flaherty led the way for the Braves, carding a 75 (+3) while freshman Jillian Cosler followed up with a 78 (+6).

The second round proved to be a better showing for the team. Sophomore Allison Pacocha led the round with a 73 (+1), the best individual score of the tournament for the team. A trio of 76s (+4) from Cosler, Flaherty and senior Grace Aromando followed Pacocha’s performance.

The final round saw the same struggles as the first. Junior Maria Perakis carded a 76 (+4) with Pacocha, Cosler and Aromando each shooting a 78 (+6) to round out the tournament.

Leading the way individually for the Braves was Cosler (+16) in 34th place. Joining her in the top 40 was Flaherty (+18), who finished 39th. Aromando and Pacocha both finished tied for 43rd place at +19 while Perakis (+21) finished in 47th. Freshman Brooke Deebs competed as an individual and shot 245 (+29).

With a ninth place finish out of the nine teams, Bradley finished the tournament empty handed and will look to rebound at home at the Coyote Creek Classic on Oct. 7 and 8.
