One-on-One-on-One: Which Brave has had the best season?

Fall sports at Bradley are in full swing, and Braves fans are privileged to see great individual performances. This week, we asked The Scout sports staff to pick our athletes’ best performances this year.

Mitch Coughlon

By Steffen White

The year is still young, but my current leader for the most impressive season is soccer’s Mitch Coughlon. Despite only starting in two games this season, Coughlon is still the leading goal scorer for the Braves. He has the only two-goal match for any player this season. His shot-on-goal percentage of 0.778 is already astounding, but it gets even more impressive considering the team average of 0.462. A weapon like that coming off the bench could be massive for the Braves as the season progresses. He may only be a sophomore, but the future is bright for this Brave.

Nadia Potgieter

By Jacob Hypke

Bradley athletes have had varying levels of success, but track and field’s Nadia Potgieter is the most dominant.

Potgieter has placed first in the Hawkeye Invite and the Bradley Intercollegiate. Her performances become more impressive because she stays on top of her academics. Last week, the junior was named scholar-athlete of the week.

The highlight of Potegier’s year was at the Bradley Intercollegiate when she ran 16.32.5 in the three-mile. The junior finished 22 seconds before second place and earned my selection as the best Brave so far.

Silan Demirkol

By Umar Syed

Many outstanding athletes have shined this year; however, the Brave who had the best performance of the year was Silan Demirkol, as she has set the standard for what it means to be a Brave.

In recent volleyball tournaments, Demirkol helped the Braves dominate, including averaging a season-high 15 kills and grabbing a double-double and 41 kills, which helped the Braves dominate South Dakota State and Eastern Illinois. Silan has improved tremendously from her sophomore and junior years and is looking to make a lasting impact on her team, help them win and prove why they can dominate the MVC.
