The Dogs’ Dominance: Georgia’s Historic Three-Peat in Sight

By: Gabriel Holowka

A little under eight months since Georgia destroyed TCU 65-7 in the CFP National Championship to win their second consecutive title, they are now looking for a historical three-peat.

Dating back to 1900, only Minnesota has won three national championships in a row – from 1934-1936. The Bulldogs are looking to be the second team to do that this year and they have the talent and coaching to get it done.

On ESPN’s top 100 college players, Georgia is tied for the most players on the list with six, none of whom fall below the top 50. Having four defenders on this list, including one on every single level of defense, shows the dominance of the Bulldogs’ top-rated defense across the nation.

While they have a top defense and great coaching, let’s not shy away from their big-name tight end Brock Bowers on offense. Bowers has been an unstoppable force for the Georgia offense over the past few years and this year, he is ranked as the number two player in all of college football. Having a big target on offense that you can rely on to make catches in crucial situations is a big part of running an offense, and Bowers provides that for the Bulldogs in an elite manner.

With the past two years ending in a championship for Georgia, they’ll be running out this season salivating for a third-straight title and the chance to make some more history. They have all the necessary tools to win for a third-straight year, including experienced players and coaches that have been in this position before.

Colorado will win the Natty

By Aiden Dewhurst

On Sept. 2, the unranked Colorado Buffaloes played the 17th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs, which Colorado was victorious in a 45-42 shootout. TCU wasn’t an ordinary 17th-ranked team, but were actually in the National Championship game last year.

However, we are not here to talk about TCU. We are here to talk about Colorado, and for that I have four words for you: Travis Hunter for Heisman.

Hunter will be one of the main reasons Colorado will win the 2024 CFP National Championship. To put into perspective how insane and amazing Hunter’s performance was on Saturday, he played 129 out of 160 possible snaps, mostly because he played cornerback and wide receiver. Playing both sides of the ball was famously done by Charles Woodson, who won the Heisman in 1997.

While Hunter was on defense, he racked up three tackles, one pass defended and an interception. He has been touted as the number one cornerback in the Power Five after that performance. When he was on offense, Hunter totaled 11 receptions for 119 yards, giving him the second most receiving yards and tying him for the most receptions on his team.

While all of that is impressive, football is a team sport and you can’t go out there and win with just one insanely talented player. Luckily for the Buffs, the rest of the team has shined as well.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw 510 yards and four TDs with an 80.8 completion percentage. The defense also raked in an interception, two passes defended and a forced fumble – without help from Hunter.

Kicking is also immensely important in football, and Colorado kicked well on Saturday. Jace Feely made all five of his extra points and, even though he missed a field goal, he knocked down a 49-yarder to end the first half which proved crucial as the Buffs went on to win by three points.

Even beyond everything that happens on the field, one of the most important parts of a team is its coach and the culture they set in the locker room. From many videos and previous endeavors, we all know that Coach Prime is a guy who can create winning football. Seeing the way he coaches and the influence that he has on his players, he always believes in them and makes sure that they are putting in the work to be great.

With two-way threat Hunter, an elite QB in Sanders and a likable coach in Coach Prime, I don’t see anyone standing in the way of Colorado this college football season.
